Let’s See If Mommy’s Milk Will Make You Feel Better: Episode 1 by Luca Satana
I don’t know what I wanted. What I got was my mom saying, “Let’s see if Mommy’s Milk will make you feel better.” Now, I don’t know how it couldn’t.
Hi. I’m Joe. And yeah, I guess I am sorry for the role I played in this whole messed up situation. And yet, I’m kind of not. I mean, there was some definite truth to what I was saying. In the beginning. But then things just spiraled. You know how these things get. Regardless, after a while, I really do think my mom’s milk made me feel better.
Excerpt:
“Joe, what is it?”
“Oh, nothing.”
“Joe? Really, what is it?”
“I don’t know. I guess I’m a little annoyed.”
“About what?”
“Well, it’s not your fault. Really. It’s only that in recent times, I’ve just wondered. About your wild years.”
“Yes, Mommy’s wild years.”
“Did your wildness, all you were doing, what you were putting in your body, and as a result what you were putting in my body, have something to do with my problems.”
“Oh, Joe?” My mom started to tear up a little. “Mommy certainly hopes not.”
Seeing her this way, I right away wished I hadn’t said anything. Even if I had thought it. More than once. Over the years. I never should have said anything. And yet, I feel like it was good to get it out. Still, I had to do something to hopefully turn this around. My mom was already older than a woman should probably be to have a baby. She didn’t need this. “Oh, Mom. I’m sorry. I’m sure there was no connection.”
“Yeah?” she said, wiping her eyes.
“Yeah,” I said. “Regardless, your wild years are long gone, now. You live very healthy, now. So, you won’t be putting anything bad in your new baby. That’s for sure.”
“Right.” My mom brightened up. “You’re certainly right.” She reached around me, holding me. “Mommy’s milk will be pure as the driven snow.”
“Right.” I smiled. “No doubt about it.”
“Mommy hopes to give her new baby the best chance at life.”
“Good.”
“But Mommy still can’t help feeling so horribly bad she didn’t do that for you.”
“Oh. It’s okay. I’m sure my ailments are from genetics or whatever. Nothing from what you did. Probably, anyway.”
My mom lifted her head and eyed me.
“What?”
“Joe, do you think maybe Mommy’s milk would help you, now?”
